Why Rest Is Part of the Plan

This past weekend was Memorial Day 2026, which meant I had an extra day away from work. Like many people, I created a mental list of everything I was finally going to accomplish around the house.
Laundry. Floors. Cleaning. Organizing. Meal prep.
You know…all of the “productive” things.
But instead? Baby, I rested. HARD! And honestly? It was the best decision I could have made.
When I return to work, I will feel clearer, lighter, and more focused. And somewhere between folding clothes today and catching up on life, I realized something important: Why do so many of us allow ourselves to rest only after everything else is done? Why have we normalized squeezing rest into the margins of our lives rather than intentionally building it into our routines?
As high-capacity women, especially those balancing careers, businesses, leadership roles, households, and purpose-driven goals, we often treat rest like a reward instead of a requirement. But scripture shows us something different. Even Jesus rested.
Throughout the Bible, we see intentional pauses, moments of solitude, and reminders that wisdom is not found in endless striving. In Mark 6:31, Jesus tells His disciples: “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”
That verse hits differently when you realize the invitation to rest came in the middle of responsibility. NOT after everything was complete.
And if we’re honest, the work is never fully done. There will always be another email, another load of laundry, another deadline, another responsibility waiting for us tomorrow.
But rest is not laziness. Rest is wisdom. Rest is stewardship. Rest is a strategy.
Psalm 127:2 reminds us that: “He grants sleep to those He loves.”
Not after burnout. Not after exhaustion. Not after we’ve proven ourselves worthy. Simply because we are loved. Amen?!
That realization is one of the reasons I created The Well-Rested CEO™️.
The Well-Rested CEO™️ is a movement designed to help high-capacity women build successful businesses and meaningful lives without sacrificing peace, alignment, or themselves in the process. Because contrary to what hustle culture teaches us, exhaustion is not a badge of honor. You do not have to constantly prove your worth through burnout.
Proverbs teaches us repeatedly that wisdom creates sustainability, not chaos. And even Esther, while preparing for one of the most important assignments of her life, went through a season of preparation, intentionality, and care before stepping into purpose. That perspective matters.
Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is pause long enough to hear yourself think again. Long enough to pray. Long enough to recover. Long enough to return with clarity instead of resentment.
This season, I’m learning to stop treating rest like an interruption to my productivity.
I’m learning to see it as part of the plan.
And maybe you should, too.
